New every morning is your love, great God of light, and all day long you are working for good in the world. Stir up in us desire to serve you, to live peacefully with our neighbors and all your creation, and to devote each day to your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Holy Listening with Breath, Body, and the Spirit

by Whitney R. Simpson

What is holy listening?

Holy listening is listening for God. As you practice holy listening through this book, you will use your entire being—mind, muscles, senses, imagination, and breath—in listening for God’s activity in and around you. God created your body and gave you breath to sustain your life. Exploring the gift of your body—imperfections and all—will place you on a path toward healing and wholeness. You are encouraged to use this book as a guide on your journey toward healing, wholeness, and spiritual formation. Give yourself permission to slow down and listen to your body. As you begin to listen more deeply with breath, body, and spirit, take time to notice the holy amidst both the ordinary and the extraordinary, the loud and the quiet. Prepare to listen for God’s activity with all your being and to experience God’s peace.
